Mobile Devices
Introduction
Hello my name is Sherrie Coleman and being in this class will allow me to focus on a new way of living, thinking, and teaching education. I do have back ground knowledge regarding computers, and some technology software, but not too much about MP3s or iPhone or iPod Touch. I never really cared for chat-room, blog, nor my space and others. However, in the past, I had to participate in a chat room with students here at CSUSB in another blackboard classroom, as well as creating my own website. I know that I should be more open with new technology and mobile devices, because it's the new way of living. Now, I'm in ETEC 676D this summer and I have to learn how to create a blog for myself which appears to be elementary.
My Experience with iPhone
In February 2008, my daughter was deployed to Iraq and at this time a year later January 2009, she would be re-turning home, so she began to buy things over the Internet so that she would have them by the time she would be arriving home. Of course everything came to my home and so I had to check everything out as they were being delivered. One item came, it was an Apple iPhone and my daughter call me and asked me to activate it. So I did. First, after opening it up and seeing how much it coast $376.00 I was lost with words. I did not understand how could a person spend so much money on a small hand held mobile device. My dishwasher did not coast that much. However, it was my daughter's money and she had earned it so I had to except it and activate the phone. Well, after activation the phone, I found it very interesting with the things I could do with the iPhone. At the time I did not have Internet access at my home, so I was able to check my email with her phone, and I was able to search for information same as if I was on my computer. Overall, I really did like the services that the phone has to offer, and if the price is right I would purchase one for myself.
Article Feedback
Regarding the article about Apple computers in the classrooms during the 80s and 90s. I can totally relate to the article because that is when I began getting involved in elementary school sites. I can remember how apple offered incentives for school Districts to purchase computers. Apple Computer helped to create the first computer lab at my child's school in the late 80s and early 90s. As a parent volunteer I was able to help save soup cans receipt to purchase Apple computers. I can remember how the new Apple computer's came out with different colors to help attract sells. Our school district purchase them for each school sites in diffrent colors, and after purchasing them the district was given incentives to keep them in operation. After being hired with the school district, I remember my first computer was the clear MAC the application was Apple works. However, around 2003, I seen the apple computers began to fade out of the elementary computer labs and into the classrooms. Now many of the computer labs now have HP, or IBM computers which was a down fall for Apple Computers.

I find it interesting that you found the iPhone easy to use, despite the fact that you hadn't used one before. This is a key reason why these mobile devices should be looked at in a class like this. This type of usability is a great leap forward compared to the clumbsy and difficult interfaces in previous computer generations.
ReplyDeleteYes! The iPhone is a popular device these days. The applications that are available are amazing. Having the ability to get on the Internet just about anywhere is one of my favorite applications. I do not have one, but my husband does, and I love playing around. I just purchased the Blackberry Curve, and I'm hoping it has great features like the iPhone!
ReplyDeleteSherrie,I agree with your statement about,A New Way of Teaching. In about a year most schools using technology and mobile devices today can change the future of most students and teachers. One great mobile devices(iPhone or iPod),every student will have one and the ages are getting younger.
