Lesson 2
ETEC 676
Purpose:
The purpose of the project is to discuss and evaluate how can MP3, and iPod mobile devices be used in a special education classroom. These tools MP3, and iPod mobile devices will be used to help support the classroom blog site for parents and students.
Goal:
The goal is to create a blog site for parents and students to access from their home computer or their mobile handheld device. This blog site will be designed for students to access video games they use at school; by creating a website link. The blog site will also offer announcements and instruction on how to get started for parents. The site will have a podcasting or audio visual video by the teaches to help explain how to access and use video games.
Setting:
This is a team teaching for Special Education classroom for Moderate to Server handicap students. The class contains 7 students’ grades 1-3. Four boys and three girls.
Research:
Collection of articles will be used to explain what are podcasting and the tools that support the services. These articles will discuss multimedia in the classroom; also the basic information about MP3 and iPod services that can be used for podcastiing/ video on our blog site.

Educational Technology, 39. Retrieved July 17, 2009 from the World Wide Web:

In this article the literature examines the increasing usages of podcasting for
education and how MP3/MP4 devices can be used for more than music or video
entertainment. The devices can be used as an educational material and for
library services. The article give a brief overview of what is podcasting, and the
support of mainstream traditional teaching. Beside the discussion about alternative
teaching the study revealed four characteristics regarding educational podcasting.
These characteristics addresses Teaching-driven podcasting, Service-driven
podcasting, Marketing-driven podcasting, and Technology-driven podcasting. I
found that my need for podcasting is related to the teacher, and service driven usage.
Overall, the literature was helpful because the language is similar to my other
articles research literature. This article validates how teachers can use technology
and mobile devisees as tools for alternative teaching and public services.

Diverse Learners Using Audio and Video Technology. Early Childhood
Education Journal, Vol. 35, (1). Retrieved July 17, 2009 from the World Wide

The literature in the article offers an overview of practical applications for
multimedia technology to help support early literacy. The article also, talks about
evaluating software programs and variations of recorded books and stories for
alternative learning and how audio and video recording can be utilized for schools
and libraries services. The article also emphasized on meeting the needs of
children with disabilities and children who are acquiring a second language. These
issues can now be addressed with the usage of multimedia tools on the internet.
These tools can be used to help support innovation, diverse changes and
accommodating techniques for teaching students with specific needs. This issue
with meeting the needs of students is the main reason why I selected this article.
I always need to find different ways and styles to support students IEP and SSTs.
This article offers similar information as my other articles I collected. All
of the articles discussed how to approach computer technology, podcasting, and
overview of both Apple/PC and garageband and audacity. However, this article,
offers several different ways in using audio and video recording in the classroom
for students with specific needs. These reporters are apart of the College of

The article has highlighted several short topics that would be usefulness to my
project. The reading is about creating your first pod casting, software applications
and any equipment that’s needed. The collective information defines podcasting as a
tool for students and teachers to engage in learning with technology. Also how
schools and public libraries can benefit by using podcasting to promote school
announcements, library services and programs and others. The article reported on
exploring the Web 2.0 tools for teachers. The most important topic in the reading
focused on creating your first podcasting, and information about Apple/Mac, verses
PC/Windows and audacity or garageband, and syndicate to your audience. Evermore,
regarding usage of mobile devices such as iPod, other MP3 devices or computer for
audio posting or podcasting. Overall, this literature was clear and understanding
about how to create my first audio casting or podcasting for my classroom blog site.
That’s one reason why I selected this article. Another reason is because, I’m a school
Librarian and writer is an instructor at the Graduate School of Library and
Information Science at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.

UPDATE: July 27, 2009 Co-Teachers made a video recording.
On July 22, 2009 Helen and I (Sherrie) made a video recording for our mobile device project. We had a few issues to address regarding what tools to use.
the person who helped us in making the video, owned a cam-quarter video recorder, a Panasonic handheld digital recorder, Helen, had a phone camera/video recorder. We used the handheld recorder, and the mobile phone. The phone did not have enough time on it. So we used the digital recorder and we decided on the Apple computer.
"That did not work", because the Apple computer appeared to be out of date. The computer was about a (1999 Apple computer). So therefore we used Microsolft PC. We did about three takes until we were satisfied. Second problem, the person took the video home and put it on her computer.
But she could not email it because the "File was to big". Next, she created a disk and gave it to us, but there was no sound. So I suggested to visit the Audacity.com web site for help. However, the file was still to big. I know that it's something she is doing wrong. On July 28, 2009 we will be using a mobile phone device as I suggested in the begining. "I hope it works," or I will be in your office.
