I found several of the available applications and web services for mobile devices could be used for educational purpose. The ones that I am interested in are posted on my class ETEC 676 blackboard under lesion 3 media and links assignments.
First, I took interested in Poll Anywhere www.polleverywhere.com/ it offered live audience feedback. It explains how you can ask the audience a question, and they are able to answer back using SMS text messages. The results are updated live in your web browser or power point, and its free. I could use this service to keep informed with parents and students regarding homework assignments. Or feedback from parents or students that might have any questions about the homework assignment.
Second, I focused on Education Application for the iPhone, http://web.me.com/dowd/Touch/Welcome.html
because of My homework services, Evernote, and Typing Class. This particular site offers several services for educators, parents, and students. For instance, the typing services will help students with their typing speed. It can be fun and the teacher can challenge students on their typing speed. The services also offers evernote to create a web site that will post in text, or audio for parents or students to view homework for the week, or class notes, while using a mobile device called the iPhone. I could use this service for parents who may want to check on students homework assignment posting, or any important information that parents may need to know, or activities that is going on at their childs school site.
Third, is the Palm Traning for Educators OS handheld devices (website), that offers application for Palm OS handheld devices for educators and the for the purpose of learning. I visit www.goknow.com/Products/PAAM the web services focused on backing-up- students school work from a mobile handheld device and other services.
www.beret.com offers educators and students different services like, lesions plans at grade appropriate, ways to make spelling fun, math challenge, along with creating your own crossword puzzles and other services that addresses grade k-12. I would use the web services to create fun puzzle games for 1-2 grade or post math problems for the students with the help of their parents. These particular web services could be beneficial for teaches and students.
Last, I found helpful is Learning in Hand www.learninginhand.com has a lots of web services for teachers, students and parents. The site offers Mobile Web Create a Site and its easy to use, and iPode in Education. One of the hosts on this web site is Winksite, that can help educators to create a site for homework, note taking, a feedback forms for parents along with other services. Another hosts on this site is iPod in Education which offers, voice recording, lecture, class discussion, announcement, ink note or even word for the week for parents to access. I could use this particular device to record my homework expectation or post any school announcement. However, if I was teaching at a college this would work out great for classroom lectures and note taking. Overall, this mobile device could be our future way of teaching and learning.

Hello Sherrie, welcome to the class. I found this website (www.beret.com) to be interesting. I can't wait to explore it some more. In regard to the cost of your daugther's iPhone, I understand your initial shock. I was the same way when my daugther purposed her first piece of hardware on her owe.
